Restore Test Pass Rate
The share of scheduled test restores or automated backup verifications that recovered data or systems successfully.
Formula
Test restores passed ÷ Test restores attempted × 100
Why Track It
A restore test is the only proof a backup is usable. It turns backup from an assumption into evidence the vCIO can show a client or an insurer.
How It Is Measured
Count test restores and automated verification jobs (boot checks, file-level restore tests) completed in the period, and divide those that passed by all attempted. Report which clients and systems were tested, since coverage matters as much as the pass rate. Record restore time against each client's recovery time objective. Source: backup platform verification logs and the restore test ticket in the PSA.
Constraints
A high pass rate on a small sample of easy systems proves little, so report test coverage beside it. Full bare-metal tests are costly and usually sampled.
Measurement Note
No published benchmark gives a universal pass rate. N-able's example treats 98 of 100 verified backups as 98% data integrity confidence, which illustrates the calculation rather than a standard.
